What is an IP address?

First, it is important to differentiate between two types of IP addresses: Your external (public) IP address and you internal (private) IP address. Your external IP address is issued to you by your ISP. It indicates your geographic location. Your internal IP address, on the other hand, is issued by your router to the devices connected to it. Each device has a different private IP, but all the devices connected to your router share the same external IP address.

Once you connect one of your devices to a VPN server, its external IP issued by your ISP will be hidden, thus, hiding your true location.Web sites or apps you visit while connected to VPN will only see the IP address you are assigned by the VPN server.
